On April 21 the FDA approved the new drug ramucirumab (trade name Cyramza) for use in patients whose stomach cancer cannot be surgically removed or has spread following chemotherapy. The drug was developed by Eli Lilly and Co. to treat advanced stomach cancer in the area where the esophagus joins the stomach. According to the National Cancer Institute, in 2014 about 22,220 American will be diagnosed with stomach cancer and 10,990 will die from the disease this year.
